PFA Consulting Transport Assessments

Transport Assessments

The 2001 version of PPG13 introduced the requirement for Transport Assessments to be submitted with planning applications where a development was likely to give rise to significant transport implications. Prior to this Traffic Impact Assessments were prepared but the emphasis is now on ensuring that development is transport sustainable. Securing planning permission often depends on developing proposals that enhance accessibility by walking, cycling and public transport.

We regularly prepare Transport Assessments to accompany planning applications as either stand alone documents or as part of an Environmental Impact Assessment. Although each Transport Assessment is unique the general approach follows a recognised framework. It is the scale and complexity of a project which will determine the technical work required.

As part of the Transport Assessment process we carry out consultations with stakeholders and the planning and highway authorities. We also regularly undertake negotiations in connection with planning agreements and other legal documentation.

Public Transport

As part of the preparation of Transport Assessments we assess the impact of development on existing or proposed public transport. We are also able to provide more specialist advice on the planning and design of public transport facilities and infrastructure.
