GWR Rail Replacement Works

PFA Consulting works with GWR Possession Delivery to deliver rail replacement services during Network Rail planned engineering works. This involves setting up temporary arrangements at various railway stations to enable replacement bus services to operate during this period. Over the last few years much of the work has been associated with the electrification of the Great Western mainline between London and south Wales.

We are responsible for preparing the enabling works specification and setting out the requirements in the work and pricing schedule for the work to be carried out by the contractor. We are also responsible for preparing engineering layouts for the stations affected and temporary signage schedules for advance signage ahead of the works and customer information and wayfinding during the works. On some projects we also prepare the artwork for the temporary signage for supply to the printers.

As the delivery date at the end of the project timeline is fixed, the work needs to be managed effectively to ensure successful and on time delivery of the temporary works. At the beginning of the project we undertake a review of the requirements station by station and identify any potential risks as soon as possible. Any proposed changes to these requirements during the project are reviewed and addressed accordingly. We are in regular contact with the client and contractor throughout the project. We also liaise with station teams, replacement bus operators and local authorities, and take part in stakeholder steering group meetings as required.
